Diatomaceous earth (DE) pool filter, even with routine backwashing, should be opened and have a complete cleaning of the internal grids every 6 months. There are times when this cleaning cycle can be shortened due to environmental factors, especially in Arizona. Monsoons and dust storms can greatly affect your performance and wear and tear on your filter. Dusty, silty debris impacts the fabric mesh of the DE grids
Full disassembly of the filter. Clean and inspect each internal grid (8 in total) and can be replaced as needed after inspection. Inspect essential rings and lubricate/replace them as needed. Inspect the backwash valve operation. Re-assemble filter, re-charge with fresh DE, and check for leaks.
